Building a flexible brand and site to reflect a nonprofit's mission of community arts and engagement.

PROJECT: Branding Identity + Web Design
CLIENT: CX CREATIVE SPACES, a nonprofit organization
YEAR: 2025
Roles: Art Direction, Brand Identity, UX/UI Design, Web Design, Visual Strategy
Deliverables: Logo system, typography, color palette, brand guidelines, website design and digital templates
CHALLENGE: CX Creative Spaces needed a professional and inspiring visual identity to communicate its mission of connecting artists, educators, and community organizations. The existing brand lacked cohesion and visibility, limiting engagement with potential collaborators and donors.
Audience: Artists, educators, students, and community members seeking creative resources and collaborative programming.
Constraints: The organization had limited startup funding and required a scalable, low-maintenance website platform that volunteers could update easily. The design had to be both professional and approachable, reflecting inclusivity and creativity.

APPROACH/PROCESS: The design process focused on balancing clarity, creativity, and accessibility.
Research & Insights: Reviewed visual identities of comparable community arts nonprofits and conducted informal interviews with CX’s founders to define their brand voice — inclusive, experimental, and community-forward.
Concept Development: Explored logo sketches emphasizing “connection” and “space,” using intersecting forms and adaptable geometric grids. Typography choices centered on legibility with personality, pairing a humanist sans serif with a structured display type.
Design Development: Created several identity systems testing color contrast, type hierarchy, and visual modularity. Collaborated with the client through weekly reviews to refine tone and usability.
Web Design: Prototyped the site using an intuitive navigation structure — emphasizing mission, events, and opportunities. Implemented a CMS with editable sections for easy content updates.
SOLUTIONSThe final identity features a modular logo system that reflects connection and collaboration, which was the original brand's focus. Its color palette blends warm neutrals and dynamic accents, striking a balance between approachability and creative energy. The website presents clear pathways for engagement — highlighting community initiatives, upcoming workshops, and calls for collaboration. Its flexible layout adapts seamlessly across devices, ensuring accessibility for all users.
RESULTSThe new identity and website launched in early 2025, earning positive feedback from the organization’s community partners and collaborators. Site traffic and event inquiries increased following launch, and the brand system became a key visual asset in their grant and partnership materials.
“TJ helped us articulate our vision visually — the identity feels fresh, collaborative, and accessible. It finally feels like us.” — CX Creative Spaces Team.

TakeawayThis project reaffirmed my commitment to design that serves communities — creating systems that are both conceptually strong and practically sustainable. It also deepened my approach to modular branding for mission-driven organizations. You can visit their website here.
